Does your head hurt?

Puppy Headache

June 24, 2015

Many of us suffer from headaches on a regular basis. Headaches are actually one of the most common health conditions for Australians. Research shows that, at any given time, 15% of us are taking pain relief medication for headaches.

Medication may help in the short-term, but it is not a good long-term solution. As the name says, it’s pain relief and does nothing to fix the underlying cause of headaches.

Modern life can be a pain in many ways. We spend most of our days sitting at desks, computers, in cars, or looking at some kind of mobile device. We often tend to slouch, causing muscle aches between our shoulder blades, on the top of our shoulders, and in our neck.

This muscular tension can refer pain up into our head and cause a tension headache. These are the most common types of headache, affecting 75% of sufferers. According to Headache Australia, 60% of people with tension headaches will experience reductions in social activities and work capacity.

Tension headaches usually feel like a dull and persistent pain on both sides of the head. The pain is often constant, or can occur in episodes lasting minutes, hours, days or even months. Some people also experience tenderness of the scalp, neck or shoulder muscles. Ouch!

Life is too short to live with headaches. There are simple treatment options you can consider instead of temporary pain relief medication – such as chiropractic. In addition to providing relief of symptoms, chiropractic treatment can become a headache prevention strategy.

Stress, muscular tension, neck pain, eyestrain, and jaw problems are just some of the common cause of headaches. We can address all of these symptoms as chiropractors.
