According to a 2009 National Survey of Mental Health and Wellbeing conducted by the Australian Bureau of Statistics, 1 in 5 Australians will experience a mental illness every year.
The most common mental illness is anxiety, which affects 14% of Australians each year. This is a considerable portion of our population. It’s no wonder that mental illness is the third leading cause of disability burden in Australia. This means that those affected are unable to function day-to-day or work consistently.

Some common deep relaxation techniques include Yoga, Meditation and gentle exercise. Gentle exercise in a natural environment is especially nourishing for the soul—e.g. swimming at the beach, kayaking or bushwalking.
