Chronic musculoskeletal pain is a major health problem. The 2012 Global Burden of Disease study (Lancet 2012) highlighted that lower back pain is the more debilitating problem for Australians, along with tension headaches, neck pain and migraines.
Although these problems seem to be strongly prevalent there is a lack of understanding amongst the community about what treatment options are available. Studies have shown (Tuchin, Pollard , Bonello 2000) that chiropractic treatment can result in significant improvements in patient health.
While many patients who present with this sorts of problems tend to attribute them to high stress factors, focusing on spinal health enables them to target the direct physical attributes that result in these symptoms, such as headaches and migraines (Bronfort, Assendelft, Evans et al. 2001).
How can we help?
In order to maximise the benefits of chiropractic treatment, the team at 3Ways suggest a holistic approach to health, targeting the underlying stress causes that tend to trigger pain. These may include being more active to help reduce tension and stress, or to practice mindfulness techniques to minimise and manage anxiety.
