Think big to live well
At 3Ways, we are passionate about Thinking Big. Looking after yourself is about more than just having a balanced diet and getting plenty of exercise—it’s also about looking after your mental health. In fact, mental health is crucial to maximising your potential in every facet of your life. Without a balanced and positive outlook, achieving your personal and professional goals can be difficult.
We all have moments when we feel stressed, anxious or depressed. It’s human nature to feel a range of different emotions, both positive and negative. But when our negative emotions spiral out of control, dictating our day-to-day lives, mental health issues can develop. Chronically stressed, anxious or depressed individuals often struggle to regulate their eating, sleeping and exercise habits, leading to other health problems.
The National Survey of Mental Health and Wellbeing conducted by the Australian Bureau of Statistics in 2009 highlighted that every year, 1 in 5 Australians will experience a mental illness. The most common mental illness is anxiety, which affects 14% of Australians each year. This is a considerable portion of our population. It’s no wonder that mental illness is the third leading cause of disability burden in Australia, accounting for 27% of total years lost due to disability. This means that these individuals were unable to function day-to-day or work consistently.
Why is it important to Think Big?
- To maximise your personal and professional potential
- To help you achieve your goals
- To help you feel happy and healthy
- To reduce stress and anxiety
- To reduce the risk of developing a mental illness
Thinking Big is all about taking care of your mental health and giving yourself plenty of “mental breaks” and relaxation. Some common deep relaxation techniques include yoga, meditation and gentle exercise. Gentle exercise in a natural environment is especially nourishing for the soul—e.g. swimming at the beach, kayaking or bushwalking.
At 3Ways, we offer a range of services under the Think Big model. These include:
